- Slow paced, nature based hikes open to the public on Fridays.
- These hikes look at wildflowers, plants, trees, birds and animals; anything that catches our eye and looks interesting. We do hike, but we stop to look. We will talk about the history of the area if it is important to where we are.
- Bring plenty of water.
- No pets. No smoking.
- Children under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent.
- Bad weather may change or cancel hike.
Friday Slow Paced Hikes
|Oct 5||Box Camp||Meet at McDonalds on Tanque Verde and Catalina Highway at 8 am.||David Dean will lead this hike giving an overview of the trees and plants on this lovely trail. There may be some wildflowers too. We will probably hike a total of 3 to no more than 5 miles round trip. Some climbing, moderate difficulty|
|Oct 12||Marshall Gulch||Meet at McDonalds on Tanque Verde and Catalina Highway at 8:00 a.m.||we will follow this trail clockwise and should see the lovely aspen grove clothed in gold. This is a 4 mile loop back to the parking lot. Some climbing in the beginning but generally a moderate hike.|
|Oct 19||Madeira Canyon to Roger's Rock||Meet at Walmart at Speedway and Kolb at 7:30 a.m.||This hike is up the Super Trail to a cutoff that leads to a rock out cropping with beautiful views. Length is about 4 miles. This will be a potluck so bring a dish to share and your own utensils and drinks.|
|Oct 26||Turkey Run/Bear Wallow||Meet at McDonalds on Tanque Verde and Catalina Highway at 8:00 a.m||This will be about 4 miles total. We will also add a few more color spots off of Bear Wallow.|
|Nov 2||Catalina State Park||Meet at the Home Depot on Oracle that is near Catalina State Park at 8 am.||There will be 3 one mile hikes. Learn some history of the area from the Romero ruins!|
|Nov 9||Sycamore Dam||Meet at McDonalds on Tanque Verde and Catalina Highway at 8 am.||A 4 mile hike to the dam with a good climb coming out.|
|Nov 16||Brown Mountain||Meet at Walmart at Speedway and Kolb at 7:30 a.m.||This hike is a 4-5 mile loop. We will hike the lower trail first, then climb to the upper trail for views (hard climb up).|
|Nov 23||Sabino Scramble||Meet at the Visitor Center at 8 am.||3 to 4 miles of lower trails, leader’s choice|
|Nov 30||Linda Vista||Meet at Sunrise and Swan at 8:00 a.m.||A loop of 3-4 miles of rolling hiking.|
|Dec 7||Seven Falls||Meet at the Visitor Center at 8 am.||This can be an 8 mile hike crossing the creek 7 times. In case of high water we will substitute Esperero to the wash and back, about 3 ½ miles of good climbing.|
|Dec 14||short Phoneline Trail||Meet at the Visitor Center at 8 am.||This is about 4 miles.|
|Dec 21||Esperero Trail||Meet at the Visitor Center at 8 am.||We will take the Esperero Trail to the wash and back unless we did this on the 7th, then we will do Seven Falls|
|Dec 28||No Hike Today - Christmas Break|
|Jan 4||Wildhorse||Meet at 8:00 a.m. at the end of Speedway.||This about 4 miles of easy hiking going by the Black Hole, Garwood Dam and some impressive saguaros.|
|Jan 11||Pistol Hill||Meet at Walmart at Speedway and Kolb at 8:00 a.m.||We will hike about 4 miles total, roundtrip to the picnic area of Colossal Cave and return. This is lovely desert hiking in rolling country.|
|Jan 18||Field Trip to Fort Bowie||Meet at Walmart at Speedway and Kolb at 7:30 a.m.||This is a 2+ hour drive. We will hike the lower trail in and take the upper with views on the way out for a total of about 4 miles.|
|Jan 25||Loma Verde||Meet at McDonalds at Tanque Verde and Catalina Highway at 8 am. or at the Saguaro East Visitor Center at 8:20.||Copper mine, Pink Hill and return. About a 4 mile hike in lovely Saguaro East desert.|
