Coronado National Forest to temporarily close one visitor center and one picnic area
Tucson, Arizona, March 20, 2020 – One visitor center and one group picnic area on the Coronado National Forest are being closed indefinitely for the health and safety of visitors and staff.
Effective immediately the following visitor center will be closed to public use:
· Sabino Canyon Recreation Area Visitor Center and lower parking lot.
· Cactus Picnic Area Group Site.
A fee tube is located in the Overflow Parking Lot that accepts exact change for an $8.00 day-use pass. Other passes are not available at that location, however, information on ordering permits and maps can be found on the Forest website at https://www.fs.usda.gov/Coronado . Additionally, the Sabino Canyon Crawler service is being suspended until further notice upon mutual agreement of Coronado National Forest and Regional Partnering Center to ensure the health and safety of staff and visitors to the Sabino Canyon Recreation Area.
The Regional Partnering Center (RPC) will continue to monitor the impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and comply with any recommendations made by the Forest Service, the Federal Transit Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and the local health department. Tickets that have been pre-purchased will be refunded for departures through April 3. The RPC will coordinate any resumption of service through the Forest Service and appreciates the patience of customers as they work together to move through these uncharted circumstances.
As we work through an unpredictable and rapidly changing situation, health and safety is our number one priority. We are committed to continuing to support our communities and fulfill our mission as we all work together to minimize the impacts and spread of COVID-19.
These actions have been taken based on the best available medical advice for cleaning per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and to promote social distancing
