Ok… this use of sap and the way it can emit out of bean pods is remarkable…. and a surprise to Jesús.
But it occurred to me…that’s can’t be what TO were spending time to harvest and consume. The Chucata or Ushap that is coveted…and an actual commodity along the borderlands, grow larger on the trunk where the sap can accumulate. I found a few in mesquite crevasses this am, as large as Dan Grangers’ pinkie toe. …so find one, let it fully crystallize and pop it in your mouth. I describe it as earthy. Jesús shared a story of spending the day scouting for saguaro fruit w a few O’odham and the ladies were enjoying ushap as they walked the desert.
