Weather: Fire behavior is likely to be active tonight. Temperatures 61-66 upper elevations and 69-74 valley. West-southwest 10-20 mph winds.
Today’s Activity: East of Catalina State Park, the fire was backing downslope and was held up when it ran out of vegetation. The north end of the fire from Biosphere II around the fire to north and east to Davis Mesa area was in patrol status. On the eastern flank, the fire spotted between Evans Mountain and Lone Hill. Crews scouted and worked on dozer line ahead of the spots supported by helicopter bucket work. In Sabino and Esperero canyons there are currently no hot spots showing. Structure protection was in place between Summerhaven and Willow Canyon. Firefighters were prepositioned and scouted line locations near Redington Pass.
Tonight’s Activities: Aerial ignition operations will be conducted near Palisade Canyon and Green Mountain to increase the size of the buffer. This will reduce the risk of uncontrolled fire reaching the Catalina Highway. East of Saddlebrook, a firing operation will take place to improve firelines in the foothills. Holding, mop up and structure protection will take place in Summerhaven, Willow Canyon, Saddlebrook, Biosphere, and Oracle sections of the fire. Sabino and other south flank canyons will be patrolled tonight.
Virtual public meeting tonight at 8 PM at Bighorn Fire Info https://www.facebook.com/bighornfireinfo.
