Family Fun Hike – Time changed to 9 a.m.

Event Details

  • Date: April 26, 2025 9:00 am – 11:00 am
  • Categories: Walks | Hikes | Demos

Join Sabino Canyon Naturalists on Family Fun Hikes, held on the last Saturday of each month in the Santa Catalina Ranger District, all open to the public. These hikes are for all ages, from stroller and backpack babies to grandparents. Start time is 10 am for all hikes.

Today’s Hike: Saturday, April 26, 2025: Wildflowers

We will try to find wildflowers along this trail and identify them. Younger children can talk about colors. There may be water in the creek to play in!

Please note the earlier start time this week only.

Meet at Sabino Canyon Visitor Center.

Families can either walk in or take the Bear Canyon Shuttle to stop 2. Walkers have about a 1-mile hike along the Bear Canyon Trail and along the road to the first bridge. With luck there will be some water and some flowers. Bear Canyon Shuttle round trip cost is $8 per adult (children over 3 years old $5, under 3 free). If space available, it is $5 for one way back to the Visitor Center. If hiking, total distance out and back will be about 2 miles.

About the Family Fun hikes:

– All hikes are open to the public, free and guided, with no reservations required. Forest Service fees at parking lots may apply: $8 day pass per car or an appropriate Interagency Pass.

– Hikes are for all ages, from stroller and backpack babies to grandparents.

– Pace will be slow to accommodate our smallest hikers. If we have enough leaders, one may go faster and discuss more complex topics for the families with older children.

– All minors under 18 years old MUST be accompanied by at least one parent or guardian.

– Please ensure you and your children have sunscreen on and are wearing comfortable closed-toe walking shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather.

– For today’s hike (April 26), if there is water in the creek, bring bathing suits, towels, and extra sunscreen.

– No pets. No smoking.

– Bring water, enough for your whole family. Snacks are fine also and encouraged for the small ones.

– Stay on the trail.

– No running ahead of the hike leader. Parents/guardians may officially withdraw from the hike at any time but must let the leader know.

– Avoid touching ALL wildlife. Avoid touching holes, cacti, and tree trunks.

– Please silence cell phones. Take photos only of your own child. Do not post photos of anyone on social media without their permission.

– Most of all, HAVE FUN!!!

Note: Forest Service fees at parking lots may apply: $8 day pass per car or an appropriate Interagency Pass. Parking passes are sold daily and weekly at Sabino Canyon. An interagency yearly pass, available for $80, allows entrance to all National Parks, Forests, Monuments, and Recreation Areas. Families with fourth graders are eligible for a free pass for the year, subject to availability in 2025. Active Duty military and some retired military also are eligible for free passes. See inside the Sabino Canyon Visitor Center or Palisades Ranger Station for information about any of these passes.
