Join Sabino Canyon Naturalists on Family Fun Hikes, held on the last Saturday of each month in the Santa Catalina Ranger District, all open to the public. These hikes are for all ages, from stroller and backpack babies to grandparents. Start time is 10 am for all hikes.
Today’s Hike: Saturday, July 26, 2025: Why is Mt Lemmon so cool?
We will talk about weather and how mountains affect the weather.
Meet at Meadow Trailhead. Take the Mt. Lemmon Highway (also known as the Catalina Highway or General Hitchcock Highway) and drive about 30 miles. Turn right on Ski Run Road just before you get to Summerhaven. Go 1.3 miles to the gate. Go past the gate 1.6 miles up to the last parking lot on the left.
We’ll mostly walk along the paved road to the University of Arizona Sky Center with strollers or maybe hike a very short distance on the Meadow Trail.
Families can consider stopping at the Mt. Lemmon Lodge Beyond Bread in Summerhaven on the way home. There are family games and a nice outdoor seating area.
