About the Friday hikes:

  • All hikes are at 8:30 a.m. and open to the public.
  • All hikes leave from the Sabino Canyon Visitor Center unless otherwise indicated.
  • Please bring plenty of water and a snack or lunch for longer hikes.
  • Wear hiking boots or comfortable footwear.
  • No pets. No smoking.
  • Children under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Bad weather may change or cancel the hike.
  • Cell phones for emergency only.
  • Higher elevation demands good physical condition! We try to accommodate all levels of hikers.

Jan 3Pontatoc Ridge trailMeet at the trailhead at the north end of Alvernon at 8:30.A medium hike of 5 miles with an elevation gain of 1200 feet. Allow 3 to 3.5 hours.
Jan 10Seven FallsMeet at Sabino Canyon Visitor Center at 8:30.Bear 29 trail from Visitor Center to trail to Seven Falls in Bear Canyon. Medium difficulty, 8.5 miles with an elevation gain of 750 feet. Allow 4 to 4.5 hours. Some rock hopping if water is high.
Jan 17Pima Canyon trail to the DamMeet at the trailhead at the east end of Magee Road at 8:30This is a medium difficulty hike of 6 miles with an elevation gain of 700 feet. Allow 3 to 3.5 hours.
Jan 24Romero Pools, Catalina State Park (5 miles north of Ina Road - 11570 N. Oracle Rd)Meet at 8:15 at the east side of the Home Depot parking lot (10855 N Oracle Rd, just south of the park entrance) to caravan into the park. Or meet at the trailhead at the east end of the main paved road into the park at 8:30 am. Entrance fee $7 for 1-4 people per car required. Strenuous hike of approximately 6 miles round trip to pools. Elevation gain of approximately 1,000 feet above the state park. Allow 3.5 to 4 hours.
Jan 31Esperero trail to the RidgeMeet at Sabino Canyon Visitor Center at 8:30.This is a 7-mile difficult hike with an elevation gain of 1200 feet. Allow 4 to 4.5 hours.
Feb 7Blackett's RidgeMeet at Sabino Canyon Visitor Center at 8:30.Phoneline trail to Blackett’s Ridge trail. A 6.2-mile difficult hike with an elevation gain of 1700 feet. Beautiful views. Allow 3.5 to 4 hours.
Feb 14Douglas Spring trail to Bridal Wreath FallsMeet at Douglas Springs trailhead at the East end of Speedway at 8:30 am.A 6-mile hike with an elevation gain of about 1000 ft. Medium difficulty. An extra mile will be added to visit Ernie's Falls for those who would like an extra adventure. With luck there will be some water.
Feb 21Wasson Peak - King Canyon trail For those of you wishing to carpool from the east side, meet at the intersection of Sunrise and Swan, NE side in front of Ace Hardware by 7:30. If you would rather go to the trailhead on your own, that’s fine. We will try to hit the trail by 8:30. This is a popular trail (3.5 miles one way) for wildflower viewing. The trailhead and parking area for this hike are directly across from the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum on Kinney Road. The final destination will be the top of Wasson Peak, elevation 4,687 feet.
Feb 28Dove Mt –Wild Mustang to Wild Burrow CanyonFor those of you wishing to carpool from the east side, meet at the intersection of Sunrise and Swan, NE side in front of Ace Hardware by 7:30. If you would rather go to the trailhead on your own, that’s fine. To get to the trailhead, drive west on Ina to Thornydale and turn north, then follow Thornydale to Tangerine and turn west. Follow Tangerine to Dove Mountain, where you turn north. It’s another 5 miles on that road to the gatehouse for the Ritz Carlton Resort. Turn right through the gate, and the guard will direct you to the trailhead parking. We plan on starting the hike no later than 8:30. Approximately 8 miles and 1200 feet elevation change.
