Geology Walk

Event Details

  • Date: November 29, 2023 8:30 am – 12:30 pm
  • Categories: Walks | Hikes | Demos

Discussions of Earth’s geologic history and forms. Observe the different Sabino Canyon landforms and landscapes in relation to the geologic and climatic processes and human activities that form and affect them.

Mineral exhibit table 0.5 miles into the walk. Then people wishing for more hiking can remain with us and hike an additional 2.5 miles up the Esperero Trail to the Rattlesnake Trail to the main Shuttle road, and even back to the VC if desired. The 401 portion will consume roughly 2 hours and the 402 portion an additional 2 hours. Hiking poles suggested for the named trails.

Visitors attending these walks can choose to stop their participation at the 0.5 mile point (Geology 401 and remote Table Talk) or continue with the hike up the Esperero Trail for Geology 402’s further hike of an additional 3 miles.

No reservations required. Participants meet in front of the Visitor Center. These walks take approximately 4 hours and cover 4.0 miles in total, including back to the Visitor Center.

Meet in front of the Visitor Center at 8:30 a.m.

If there is sufficient demand, the hikes will be separated in February, with Geology 401 offered on Tuesdays and Geology 402 offered on Thursdays, thus splitting the hikes and offering two walk/hikes weekly.
