We are looking for good photographers and (nature) writers to contribute to Gneiss News, SCVN’s monthly newsletter. Our beloved Ned Harris, founding editor and major contributor to the Critter of the Month column, is retiring and leaves a big gap in our publication. We do not know what will come next, so we are calling for your proposals.
We know we want good photographs and good writing, but the format, the column length, and the orientation is yet to be decided. We want articles appropriate to the SCVN membership and reflective of a deep interest and care for the flora and fauna of Sabino Canyon. This could mean articles or series of articles on pollinators, on predators, on plant – critter interdependencies, on seasonal variations, migratory visitors, etc. Submissions could be anywhere from a single photo and a short description to multiple images and a few hundred words. Please send us your ideas, proposals, and, if possible, samples of your work. Photographers who prefer not to write can submit photo proposals for which we could solicit writers, and vice versa. Gneiss News regularly publishes articles created by multiple authors. We hope to involve a number of SCVN members in this new venture, both to provide a diversity of submissions and to avoid the burden on individuals of the need for frequent contributions.
